At The Black Law Network, we love shining a light on the voices within our community. We spoke to Maame, a Year 12 student and BLN member, about how she found us, what she’s learned so far, and why she thinks others should get involved too.
👋 Meet Maame
Hey everyone! My name is Maame, and I’m currently in Year 12 studying A-Level Law, English Literature, and Biology. I’m also a proud member of The Black Law Network.
🧠 Q1: How did you find out about The Black Law Network?
I was scrolling on TikTok and saw a video titled “A network for Black aspiring lawyers”—which was literally the perfect way to describe me! I clicked straight away and decided to join.
💼 Q2: What are some of your favourite parts about being a BLN member?
I love that we’re constantly updated with legal opportunities to apply for—shout out to Tyra, our Outreach Lead, who keeps us in the loop!We also get exclusive access to amazing in-person events, like Debate Night, and we receive insightful advice on any questions we have. It’s a really supportive space.
🌟 Q3: What’s something valuable you’ve learned from being part of BLN?
One thing that’s stuck with me is how our leaders always remind us to put ourselves out there. Closed mouths don’t get fed! We’ve been taught to be our own number one fan and not to wait around for opportunities to come to us. You never know where putting yourself forward could take you.
🤝 Q4: Would you recommend BLN to others?
100% yes! I’d definitely encourage other Black aspiring lawyers to join BLN. You’ll meet likeminded people who want to see you win—and they’ll support you every step of the way.
💬 Final Thoughts
Thank you, Maame, for sharing your experience! If you're a Black aspiring lawyer looking for opportunities, support, and community—BLN is the place to be.
